HR/Health and Safety Manager
Reporting directly to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the HR/Health and Safety Manager is accountable to provide support to the CAO, perform office administration and other duties as they pertain to the operation of Boreal Housing Foundation (BHF) as directed. This position also provides safety expertise for all employees, related to the compliance to Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Legislation for BHF.
Key Responsibilities:
Administrative & Operational Support
• Provide administrative support to leadership (CAO and management team).
• Assist with marketing, board materials, and meeting documentation.
• Maintain accurate records, correspondence, and filing systems.
• Support HR-related tasks, including personnel files and leave tracking.
• Manage office operations (mail, supplies, equipment maintenance).
• Handle confidential information with discretion.
• Participate in meetings, training, and additional assigned duties.
Health & Safety Leadership
• Act as the subject matter expert on legislative compliance and workplace safety.
• Lead inspections, audits, and hazard assessments to ensure regulatory and policy compliance.
• Develop and improve safety policies, procedures, and emergency preparedness plans.
• Conduct safety training, orientations, and emergency drills.
• Investigate incidents, track reports, and implement corrective actions.
• Monitor safety data, maintain records, and ensure effective control measures.
• Liaise with WCB and manage return-to-work/modified duty programs.
• Support and guide safety committees and departmental inspections.
Qualifications:
• Business Administration Certificate
• Health and Safety Certification is an asset
• Office 365 and Computer skills
Skills and Knowledge:
• Several years’ experience within a computerized environment
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Able to organize and manage files, tasks, schedules, and information
• Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
• Ability to effectively work independently and within a team
• Interpersonal skills that promote communication and team building
